He was born into a family of musicians, and his father, Vicente Torregrosa, was a well-known composer and conductor in Valencia. José Torregrosa began his musical education at a young age, studying piano with his father and later with the renowned pianist and composer Joaquín Rodrigo. Torregrosa's early compositions were heavily influenced by the Romantic style of the late 19th century, and he quickly gained recognition for his talent as a composer. In 1896, he won first prize in a national competition for his piano piece "Fantasía sobre motivos españoles," which was later published by the prestigious music publisher Casa Dotesio. Throughout his career, Torregrosa composed a wide variety of works, including orchestral pieces, chamber music, and solo piano works. He was particularly known for his piano music, which was characterized by its virtuosity and technical demands. Some of his most famous piano works include "Tres Danzas Españolas," "Fantasía sobre motivos españoles," and "Suite Andaluza." In addition to his work as a composer, Torregrosa was also a highly respected pianist. He performed extensively throughout Spain and Europe, and was known for his passionate and expressive playing style.
