The duo consists of two accomplished guitarists, Marcia Taborda Sharpe and Matthew Rohde Zohn, who have been praised for their technical precision and expressive interpretations of classical guitar repertoire. Marcia Taborda Sharpe, originally from Brazil, began playing guitar at the age of 10 and went on to study at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She later earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Arizona and has performed extensively throughout the United States and Brazil. Matthew Rohde Zohn, a native of California, also began playing guitar at a young age and went on to study at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the University of Southern California. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Europe. The duo first met while studying at the University of Arizona and quickly discovered a shared passion for the classical guitar. They began performing together as the Sharpe Zohn Guitar Duo in 2005 and have since become known for their dynamic performances and innovative programming. One of the duo's early highlights was their performance at the 2006 Guitar Foundation of America International Convention, where they were awarded the prestigious New Mexico Classical Guitar Festival Prize. This recognition helped to establish the duo as a rising force in the classical guitar world and led to numerous other performance opportunities. Since then, the Sharpe Zohn Guitar Duo has performed at major venues and festivals throughout the United States, including the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Guitar Foundation of America International Convention, and the Portland Classic Guitar Series. They have also been featured on radio programs such as NPR's "Performance Today" and have released several critically acclaimed recordings. One of the duo's most notable performances was their 2012 concert at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, where they presented a program of works by Brazilian composers. The concert was part of the museum's "Brazil Modern" exhibition and was praised for its "exquisite musicianship" and "sensitive interpretations." In addition to their performances, the Sharpe Zohn Guitar Duo is also committed to education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools throughout the United States and have worked with organizations such as the Los Angeles Guitar Academy and the Guitar Foundation of America to promote the classical guitar. Overall, the Sharpe Zohn Guitar Duo has established themselves as one of the premier classical guitar ensembles of their generation.
