Ensemble More Antiquo is a classical music ensemble that specializes in performing music from the Baroque and Renaissance periods. The ensemble was founded in 2005 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for early music and a desire to bring it to a wider audience. The founding members of Ensemble More Antiquo were violinist Maria Rodriguez, cellist Juan Garcia, and harpsichordist Ana Perez. They were soon joined by flutist Carlos Martinez and soprano Maria Gomez, completing the core group of musicians that would go on to perform together for many years. From the beginning, Ensemble More Antiquo was committed to performing music in a historically informed way, using period instruments and techniques to recreate the sound and style of the music as it would have been heard in its original context. This approach required a great deal of research and study, but the musicians were dedicated to the task and quickly gained a reputation for their authenticity and musicality. One of the ensemble's early highlights was a performance of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 at a festival in Madrid. The performance was praised for its energy and precision, and it helped to establish Ensemble More Antiquo as one of the leading early music ensembles in Spain. Over the years, the ensemble has performed at many prestigious venues and festivals throughout Europe and beyond. They have collaborated with other musicians and ensembles, including the renowned vocal ensemble Vox Luminis, and have recorded several albums of early music. One of the ensemble's most memorable performances was a concert at the Royal Palace of Madrid, where they performed music by Handel and Vivaldi in the palace's stunning Throne Room. The concert was attended by members of the Spanish royal family and other dignitaries, and it was widely praised for its beauty and elegance. Ensemble More Antiquo has also been recognized for their contributions to early music with several awards and honors. In 2010, they were awarded the prestigious National Music Prize by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the field of early music. Despite their many accomplishments, the members of Ensemble More Antiquo remain committed to their mission of bringing early music to a wider audience. They continue to perform and record, and they are always seeking new ways to share their love of this beautiful and timeless music with others.
