He was born in Daroca, a town in the province of Zaragoza, Spain, in 1611. Not much is known about his early life, but it is believed that he received his musical education in Zaragoza, where he studied with the renowned organist and composer Juan Bautista Comes. Bruna began his career as an organist in Zaragoza, where he served as the organist at the Cathedral of the Savior. He quickly gained a reputation as a skilled musician and was soon appointed as the organist at the Cathedral of Valencia. It was during his time in Valencia that Bruna began to compose his own music. Bruna's music was heavily influenced by the Baroque style, which was characterized by its ornate melodies, complex harmonies, and elaborate ornamentation. His compositions were primarily written for the organ and were often performed during religious services. One of Bruna's most famous works is his Tiento de Batalla de 6° tono, which is a piece for the organ that is meant to imitate the sounds of a battle. The piece is known for its dramatic and intense sound, which is created through the use of dissonant harmonies and rapid, virtuosic passages. Another notable work by Bruna is his Tiento de falsas de 1° tono, which is a piece for the organ that is meant to showcase the instrument's capabilities. The piece is known for its intricate counterpoint and complex harmonies, which demonstrate Bruna's mastery of the Baroque style. In addition to his compositions for the organ, Bruna also wrote several vocal works, including a setting of the Magnificat and several hymns. His vocal works are characterized by their simple melodies and straightforward harmonies, which were intended to be easily sung by congregations during religious services. Despite his success as a composer and organist, Bruna's life was not without its challenges. In 1647, he was accused of embezzlement and was forced to flee Valencia. He eventually settled in the town of Cuenca, where he continued to work as an organist and composer. Bruna died in Cuenca in 1679, leaving behind a legacy of music that continues to be celebrated today. His compositions for the organ are considered to be some of the finest examples of Baroque music, and his influence can be heard in the works of later composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach.More....
