Cathy Sim is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the world of music. Born on May 12, 1985, in Seoul, South Korea, Cathy showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue music as a career. Cathy's family moved to the United States when she was ten years old, and she continued her music education at the Juilliard School in New York City. She studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2007. After completing her studies, Cathy began performing in various concerts and competitions. In 2008, she won the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, which helped launch her career as a soloist. She also won the first prize at the 2009 New York International Piano Competition and the 2010 World Piano Competition.
