Artkronos is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2010 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for contemporary music. The ensemble is based in New York City and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances that push the boundaries of classical music. The founding members of Artkronos were pianist and composer Hubert Ho, violinist and composer Mari Kimura, and percussionist and composer David Cossin. All three musicians had extensive experience in the classical music world and were eager to explore new sounds and techniques in their performances. From the beginning, Artkronos set out to create a unique sound that blended classical music with elements of jazz, rock, and electronic music. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by contemporary composers such as John Adams, Steve Reich, and Philip Glass, as well as original compositions by the members of the ensemble. One of the highlights of Artkronos' early career was their performance at the Bang on a Can Marathon in 2011. This annual music festival in New York City showcases contemporary music from around the world and attracts thousands of music lovers each year. Artkronos' performance was well-received by both the audience and critics, and helped to establish the ensemble as a rising star in the contemporary music scene. Over the years, Artkronos has expanded its membership to include a diverse group of musicians from around the world. The current members of the ensemble are Hubert Ho (piano), Mari Kimura (violin), David Cossin (percussion), Vasko Dukovski (clarinet), and Yves Dharamraj (cello). One of the ensemble's most notable performances was their collaboration with the Kronos Quartet in 2015. The two ensembles joined forces to perform a program of contemporary music that included works by Terry Riley, Michael Gordon, and Bryce Dessner. The concert was held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and was a critical and commercial success. Artkronos has also been recognized for their innovative and groundbreaking performances. In 2016, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. This award is given to ensembles that demonstrate a commitment to exploring new and innovative music and pushing the boundaries of classical music. In addition to their performances, Artkronos is also dedicated to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly conducts workshops and masterclasses for young musicians and has worked with students at institutions such as the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. Overall, Artkronos is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that is pushing the boundaries of classical music. With their unique sound and commitment to exploring new and innovative music, they are sure to continue to make waves in the contemporary music scene for years to come.More....
