Frederik Munk Larsen is a Danish classical guitarist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative approach to the instrument. Born in 1983 in Aarhus, Denmark, Larsen began playing the guitar at the age of 10 and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Larsen's early musical education was focused on classical guitar, and he studied with some of Denmark's most renowned guitarists, including Jesper Sivebæk and Lars Hannibal. He also attended masterclasses with internationally acclaimed guitarists such as David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, and Pepe Romero. In 2005, Larsen was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where he studied with Jesper Sivebæk and received his Bachelor's degree in 2009. He continued his studies at the academy, earning his Master's degree in 2011. Throughout his studies, Larsen began to develop a unique approach to the guitar, incorporating elements of jazz, rock, and world music into his classical repertoire. He also began to experiment with new techniques and tunings, pushing the boundaries of what was traditionally considered possible on the guitar. Larsen's innovative approach to the guitar quickly caught the attention of the classical music world, and he began to receive invitations to perform at major festivals and concert halls around the world. In 2010, he won first prize at the Nordic Guitar Competition in Sweden, and in 2011 he was awarded the prestigious Léonie Sonning Talent Prize, which is given annually to a young Danish musician who shows exceptional promise. Since then, Larsen has performed at some of the world's most renowned concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Royal Danish Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Larsen's repertoire is diverse and eclectic, ranging from traditional classical works to contemporary compositions and his own original pieces. He has recorded several albums, including "Guitar Recital" (2010), "The Guitar in the New World" (2013), and "The Guitar in the Romantic Era" (2016). In addition to his performing career, Larsen is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at several music schools and conservatories around the world. He is currently a professor of guitar at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. Despite his many accomplishments, Larsen remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to push the boundaries of what is possible on the guitar, and his innovative approach to the instrument has inspired a new generation of classical guitarists.
