Fabián Panisello is a contemporary classical music composer born on October 29, 1963, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a singer. Panisello started playing the piano at a young age and later studied composition at the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires. In 1985, Panisello moved to Europe to continue his studies, first in Paris and then in Germany. He studied with renowned composers such as Franco Donatoni, Brian Ferneyhough, and Helmut Lachenmann. These experiences greatly influenced his musical style, which is characterized by complex rhythms, unconventional harmonies, and a focus on sound textures. Panisello's early works, such as "Tres piezas para piano" (1984) and "Cinco piezas para violín y piano" (1985), show the influence of Argentinean folk music and the neoclassical style. However, his later works, such as "Concierto para violín y orquesta" (1995) and "Concierto para piano y orquesta" (1997), demonstrate a departure from traditional tonality and a move towards a more experimental sound. One of Panisello's most significant works is "L'officina della resurrezione" (2000), an opera based on the life of Leonardo da Vinci. The opera premiered at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and was later performed at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. The work features a libretto by Italian writer and philosopher Edoardo Sanguineti and explores themes of science, art, and spirituality. Panisello has also composed several works for chamber ensembles, including "Tres piezas para cuarteto de cuerdas" (1990) and "Trio para clarinete, violonchelo y piano" (1992). These works showcase his interest in exploring the timbral possibilities of different instruments and his use of extended techniques. In addition to his work as a composer, Panisello is also a conductor and has led several orchestras, including the Ensemble Intercontemporain and the Orquesta Nacional de España. He has also taught composition at institutions such as the Universität der Künste Berlin and the Conservatorio di Musica "Giuseppe Verdi" in Milan. Panisello's music has been performed by leading orchestras and ensembles around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Sinfonietta, and the Ensemble Modern. He has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the Premio Nacional de Música de España in 2018. Overall, Fabián Panisello is a significant figure in contemporary classical music, known for his innovative approach to composition and his exploration of new sound worlds. His works continue to be performed and studied by musicians and audiences alike, and his influence on the field of contemporary music is sure to endure for years to come.
