Maria Balint was born on May 12, 1985, in Budapest, Hungary. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Balint showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Balint's parents recognized her potential and enrolled her in the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest when she was just six years old. She studied under some of the most renowned violin teachers in Hungary, including Vilmos Szabadi and Eszter Perényi. Balint's talent quickly became apparent, and she began winning competitions and awards at a young age. In 1996, she won first prize at the National Violin Competition for Young Musicians in Hungary. She went on to win several other competitions, including the International Violin Competition in Kloster Schöntal, Germany, and the International Violin Competition in Cremona, Italy. Balint's success continued throughout her teenage years. In 2001, she won first prize at the International Violin Competition in Novosibirsk, Russia. The following year, she won the Grand Prix at the International Violin Competition in Paris, France. Balint's talent and hard work paid off when she was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. She studied under the renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2007. After graduating from Juilliard, Balint began performing professionally. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented and passionate performer, and her concerts were highly anticipated by classical music fans around the world. One of Balint's most memorable performances took place in 2010, when she performed with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle. The concert was held at the Philharmonie in Berlin and was broadcast live on television and radio. Balint's performance was widely praised, and she received a standing ovation from the audience. In addition to her performances with orchestras, Balint also gave solo recitals around the world. She performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Balint's talent and hard work were recognized with several awards and honors throughout her career. In 2012, she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a Hungarian citizen. She was also named a UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2014, in recognition of her commitment to promoting peace and cultural understanding through music. Despite her success, Balint remained humble and dedicated to her craft. She continued to practice and perform regularly, always striving to improve her skills and connect with her audience through her music. Tragically, Balint's career was cut short when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2017. She underwent treatment and continued to perform when she was able, but her health deteriorated rapidly. She passed away on June 15, 2018, at the age of 33. Balint's legacy lives on through her recordings and the memories of those who were fortunate enough to see her perform. She will always be remembered as a talented and passionate musician who brought joy and beauty to the world through her music.
