He studied at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Caracas, where he received a solid foundation in classical music. After completing his studies, Romero began working as a pianist and arranger for various orchestras and ensembles in Venezuela. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented musician and arranger, and his arrangements of traditional Venezuelan music became very popular. In the 1950s, Romero moved to New York City, where he continued to work as a pianist and arranger. His unique style quickly gained him a following, and he became known as one of the most innovative composers of his time. One of Romero's most famous works is his Suite for Strings, which was composed in 1955. The suite is a collection of four pieces that are based on traditional Venezuelan folk songs.
