The ensemble is named after the Arabic word "amra," which means "command" or "order," reflecting the group's commitment to precision and excellence in their performances. The founding members of AMRA Ensemble are violinist Hala Khouri, cellist Ossama Abdel Meguid, and pianist Mohamed Shams. All three musicians are highly accomplished in their respective fields, with extensive experience performing both as soloists and as members of various ensembles. Hala Khouri is a graduate of the Cairo Conservatory and the Royal Academy of Music in London. She has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Cairo Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Ossama Abdel Meguid is also a graduate of the Cairo Conservatory, and has performed with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, and the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. Mohamed Shams is a graduate of the Cairo Conservatory and the Royal College of Music in London, and has performed as a soloist with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since its founding, AMRA Ensemble has become known for its dynamic and engaging performances, which showcase the group's technical skill and musical sensitivity. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by a wide range of composers, from classical masters like Mozart and Beethoven to contemporary composers like Arvo Pärt and John Adams. One of the highlights of AMRA Ensemble's early career was their performance at the Cairo Opera House in 2016. The concert, which featured works by Mozart, Brahms, and Shostakovich, was well-received by both audiences and critics, and helped to establish the ensemble as one of the leading chamber music groups in Egypt. In 2017, AMRA Ensemble was invited to perform at the Alexandria Opera House as part of the city's annual music festival. The concert, which featured works by Beethoven, Schumann, and Rachmaninoff, was a great success, and helped to further raise the ensemble's profile in the Egyptian music scene. In addition to their performances in Egypt, AMRA Ensemble has also performed internationally, including concerts in the United Kingdom and the United States. In 2018, the ensemble was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., as part of the center's "Arabesque" festival, which showcased the best of Arab culture and arts. AMRA Ensemble has also been recognized for their outstanding performances with several awards and honors. In 2017, the ensemble was awarded the "Best Chamber Music Performance" prize at the Cairo Opera House's annual music awards ceremony. The following year, they were awarded the "Best Ensemble" prize at the Alexandria Opera House's music awards ceremony.
