Levan Mekhaturishvili is a renowned classical pianist from Georgia, known for his virtuosic performances and deep musical interpretations. Born on December 12, 1983, in Tbilisi, Georgia, Mekhaturishvili showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. His parents, who were both musicians, recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Mekhaturishvili's early musical education was at the Tbilisi State Conservatory, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and pedagogue Nino Chokhonelidze. He quickly distinguished himself as a prodigious talent, winning numerous competitions and awards, including the First Prize at the International Piano Competition in Tbilisi in 1996 and the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Istanbul in 1998. In 2001, Mekhaturishvili was awarded a scholarship to study at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. There, he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and pedagogue Mikhail Voskresensky, who helped him refine his technique and deepen his musical understanding. During his time in Moscow, Mekhaturishvili also had the opportunity to perform in some of the city's most prestigious concert halls, including the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. After completing his studies in Moscow, Mekhaturishvili embarked on a successful international career as a concert pianist. He has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. He has also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. Mekhaturishvili's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by some of the greatest composers in the classical canon, including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Georgian composer Giya Kancheli, whose music he has championed throughout his career. In addition to his performing career, Mekhaturishvili is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the Royal College of Music in London. He is known for his passionate and insightful approach to teaching, and many of his students have gone on to successful careers as professional musicians. Throughout his career, Mekhaturishvili has received numerous awards and accolades for his performances and recordings. In 2007, he was awarded the prestigious Order of Honor by the President of Georgia for his contributions to the country's cultural life. He has also been the recipient of the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Rome, the First Prize at the International Piano Competition in Santander, and the First Prize at the International Piano Competition in Valencia.
