Rudi Knabl was a renowned classical music artist who was born on January 22, 1936, in the small town of Mittenwald, Germany. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father, Franz Knabl, was a famous zither player. Rudi Knabl grew up in a musical environment and started playing the zither at a very young age. At the age of 14, Rudi Knabl started performing professionally with his father's band, the Franz Knabl Ensemble. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and became a sought-after performer in Germany and Austria. In 1956, he won the prestigious German Zither Championship, which further cemented his reputation as a talented musician. In the early 1960s, Rudi Knabl formed his own band, the Rudi Knabl Ensemble, which became one of the most popular zither groups in Europe. The ensemble consisted of Rudi Knabl on zither, his brother Hans Knabl on guitar, and his sister Maria Knabl on harp. The group's unique sound and virtuosic performances quickly gained them a large following, and they went on to perform in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe. One of the highlights of Rudi Knabl's career was his performance at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. He was chosen to perform the Olympic Hymn on the zither during the opening ceremony, which was watched by millions of people around the world. The performance was widely praised, and Rudi Knabl became a household name overnight. Throughout his career, Rudi Knabl received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to classical music. In 1986, he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit, one of the highest honors in Germany, for his outstanding achievements in music. He was also awarded the Golden Badge of Honor by the Austrian government in recognition of his contributions to Austrian culture. Rudi Knabl continued to perform and record music well into his later years. He released over 50 albums throughout his career, many of which were bestsellers in Germany and Austria.
