Haas began his musical journey at a young age, studying piano with his mother and later with renowned pianist Rosina Lhevinne. He quickly established himself as a talented performer and teacher, earning critical acclaim for his performances of Baroque and Classical music. In 1976, he joined the faculty of the Indiana University School of Music, where he remained for over 30 years, teaching harpsichord, fortepiano, and chamber music. He is known for his ability to bring out the nuances and subtleties of Baroque and Classical music, making it come alive for modern audiences. His performances are characterized by a deep understanding of the historical context of the music, as well as a willingness to experiment and take risks. In addition to his work as a performer, Haas has also been a dedicated teacher and mentor to generations of young musicians. He has taught at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
