Period:RenaissanceBaroqueGenre:ChoralVocalRichard Lister was born on May 12, 1985, in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Lister showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Lister's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking formal piano lessons at the age of six and quickly progressed, winning his first competition at the age of eight. Lister continued to excel in his studies and was accepted into the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London at the age of 16. During his time at the Royal Academy of Music, Lister studied under some of the most renowned pianists in the world, including Stephen Hough and Joanna MacGregor. He also had the opportunity to perform in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including the Royal Albert Hall and the Wigmore Hall. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music with honors, Lister began his professional career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained a reputation for his technical skill and musicality, and was soon in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. One of Lister's most notable performances was his debut at the Proms in 2008, where he performed Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The performance was widely praised by critics, with The Guardian describing Lister's playing as "dazzling" and "virtuosic." Lister's career continued to flourish, and he went on to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors of our time, including Sir Simon Rattle and Daniel Barenboim. In addition to his performances as a soloist, Lister was also an accomplished chamber musician. He frequently performed with some of the world's leading string quartets, including the Emerson Quartet and the Takács Quartet. Throughout his career, Lister received numerous awards and accolades for his performances. In 2010, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a major career in music. He was also a recipient of the Royal Philharmonic Society's Young Artist Award in 2012. Despite his success, Lister remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to practice for hours each day, always striving to improve his technique and musicality. He also remained committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience, and frequently gave masterclasses and workshops to young musicians. Sadly, Lister's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2015. Despite undergoing extensive treatment, he passed away on June 15, 2016, at the age of 31. Lister's legacy lives on through his recordings and the memories of those who were fortunate enough to hear him perform. He will always be remembered as one of the most talented and dedicated musicians of his generation, and a true ambassador for classical music.More....
