Peter Washington is a renowned jazz bassist who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born on August 28, 1964, in Los Angeles, California, Peter Washington grew up in a family of musicians. His father, a jazz pianist, and his mother, a classical pianist, instilled in him a love for music from an early age. Peter Washington began playing the bass at the age of 14, and by the time he was 18, he had already established himself as a professional musician. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied music and honed his skills as a bassist. After completing his studies, Peter Washington moved to New York City, where he quickly became a sought-after bassist. He began playing with some of the most prominent jazz musicians of the time, including Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, and Freddie Hubbard. In 1987, Peter Washington joined the trio of pianist Bill Charlap, where he has remained a member to this day. Peter Washington has also worked with many other prominent jazz musicians, including Benny Carter, Tommy Flanagan, and Joe Henderson. He has recorded over 500 albums and has been a member of the house band for the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City for over 20 years. In addition to his work in jazz, Peter Washington has also made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among others.
