Heil studied music at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt before moving to Munich to attend film school. Tykwer, Klimek, and Heil formed a close friendship while studying at film school, and they began collaborating on music for their films. Their first major project together was the soundtrack for Tykwer's 1998 film "Run Lola Run," which became a critical and commercial success. The soundtrack for "Run Lola Run" was unlike anything that had been heard before in a film. It combined elements of classical music, techno, and rock to create a unique and energetic sound that perfectly complemented the film's fast-paced visuals. The soundtrack was a hit with audiences and critics alike, and it helped to establish Tykwer, Klimek, and Heil as major players in the world of film music.
