Sinfonietta Schaffhausen is a classical music ensemble based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. The ensemble was founded in 1990 by a group of local musicians who shared a passion for classical music and a desire to bring high-quality performances to their community. The founding members of Sinfonietta Schaffhausen included violinist and conductor Andreas Brenner, cellist Ursula Brenner, and pianist and composer Hans-Jürg Sommer. Over the years, the ensemble has grown to include a rotating cast of talented musicians from Switzerland and beyond. Sinfonietta Schaffhausen has become known for its dynamic and engaging performances of classical music, ranging from Baroque to contemporary works. The ensemble has performed in a variety of venues throughout Switzerland, including churches, concert halls, and outdoor festivals. One of the highlights of Sinfonietta Schaffhausen's career was their performance at the 1998 Schaffhausen Music Festival, where they were featured as the opening act. The ensemble received critical acclaim for their performance of Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G minor, which was described as "exquisite" and "emotionally powerful." In addition to their live performances, Sinfonietta Schaffhausen has also released several recordings over the years. Their debut album, released in 1995, featured works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert. The ensemble's most recent recording, released in 2018, features works by Swiss composer Frank Martin. Sinfonietta Schaffhausen has received numerous awards and accolades over the years for their contributions to the classical music scene in Switzerland. In 2005, the ensemble was awarded the Schaffhausen Culture Prize in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the arts in the region. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sinfonietta Schaffhausen has continued to perform and connect with audiences through virtual concerts and live-streamed performances. The ensemble remains committed to bringing the beauty and power of classical music to audiences in Switzerland and beyond.
