Artist Info
Ensemble Il Capriccio is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1999 in Germany. The ensemble is known for its performances of Baroque and Classical music, and has gained a reputation for its virtuosic playing and innovative interpretations. The founding members of Ensemble Il Capriccio were violinist and artistic director Kiril Todorov, cellist and baroque cellist Rainer Zipperling, and harpsichordist and organist Jörg Halubek. All three musicians had extensive experience performing with other ensembles and orchestras, and shared a passion for historically informed performance practice. From the beginning, Ensemble Il Capriccio focused on performing music from the Baroque and Classical periods, with a particular emphasis on the works of J.S. Bach. The ensemble's name, which means "the whim" or "the caprice," reflects its commitment to exploring the many facets of this rich and varied repertoire. Over the years, Ensemble Il Capriccio has expanded its membership to include a number of other talented musicians, including flutist Dorothee Oberlinger, oboist Xenia Löffler, and bassoonist Sergio Azzolini. The ensemble's core members, however, remain Todorov, Zipperling, and Halubek. One of the highlights of Ensemble Il Capriccio's career was its performance at the 2006 Bachfest Leipzig, one of the world's most prestigious festivals of Baroque music. The ensemble's program, which included works by Bach, Telemann, and Handel, was praised for its "exquisite playing" and "impeccable ensemble work." Ensemble Il Capriccio has also been recognized for its recordings, which have received critical acclaim and numerous awards. In 2004, the ensemble's recording of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos was named "Editor's Choice" by Gramophone magazine, and in 2010, its recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations was awarded the Diapason d'Or. In addition to its performances and recordings, Ensemble Il Capriccio is committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and has collaborated with schools and community organizations to bring classical music to a wider audience. Overall, Ensemble Il Capriccio has established itself as one of the leading ensembles in the world of Baroque and Classical music. With its virtuosic playing, innovative interpretations, and commitment to education and outreach, the ensemble continues to inspire and delight audiences around the globe.More....
