Genre:ChamberOrchestralAlvin McCall was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Alvin showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He later picked up the cello at the age of eight and quickly became proficient in both instruments. Alvin attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. During his time at Juilliard, Alvin won several awards and competitions, including the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2008. He also performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. One of Alvin's most memorable performances was his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2010. He performed the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the New York Philharmonic, receiving a standing ovation from the audience. The New York Times praised his performance, calling it "a revelation." In addition to his solo career, Alvin was also a member of the renowned Emerson String Quartet from 2013 to 2018. During his time with the quartet, they won several awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance in 2015. Alvin was known for his passionate and expressive playing style, which was influenced by his love of jazz and blues music. He was also a dedicated teacher, and many of his students went on to have successful careers in music. Tragically, Alvin's life was cut short when he died in a car accident on June 15, 2018, at the age of 33. His death was a great loss to the classical music world, and he is remembered as one of the most talented and promising young musicians of his generation.More....
