Huw Rhys-Evans is a Welsh classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a tenor singer, conductor, and educator. Born on October 9, 1970, in Llanelli, Wales, Huw grew up in a musical family and was exposed to classical music from a young age. His father was a conductor and his mother was a singer, and they both encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Huw began his musical training at the age of seven when he joined the Llanelli Youth Choir. He quickly showed a talent for singing and was soon selected to join the National Youth Choir of Wales. He continued to sing with the choir throughout his teenage years and was eventually appointed as its principal tenor. After completing his secondary education, Huw went on to study music at the University of Wales, Bangor. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1992 and then went on to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. This award helped to launch his career and he soon began to receive invitations to perform with some of the leading orchestras and opera companies in the UK. One of Huw's most notable performances came in 1997 when he was invited to sing at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales. He performed the hymn "Make Me a Channel of Your Peace" to a global audience of millions, cementing his reputation as one of the UK's leading tenors. Huw has also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He has sung under the baton of some of the most respected conductors in the world, including Sir Simon Rattle, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, and Sir Charles Mackerras. In addition to his work as a singer, Huw is also an accomplished conductor. He has conducted a number of choirs and orchestras, including the Welsh National Opera Chorus, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and the London Symphony Chorus. He has also served as the musical director of the London Welsh Male Voice Choir since 2013. Huw is also a passionate educator and has worked with a number of music schools and conservatories throughout the UK. He has served as a vocal coach at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and has also taught at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
