VocaMe is a classical music ensemble that specializes in medieval and Renaissance music. The ensemble was founded in 2005 by the German mezzo-soprano Sigrid Hausen and the Austrian harpist Michael Popp. The ensemble's name is derived from the Latin phrase "vocame," which means "call me." The name reflects the ensemble's mission to revive and reinterpret the music of the past. Sigrid Hausen and Michael Popp met while studying at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland. They shared a passion for early music and decided to form an ensemble that would explore the rich repertoire of medieval and Renaissance music. They were joined by the German soprano Sarah M. Newman and the German percussionist Michael Metzler. The ensemble's first performance was in 2005 at the Festival Musica Antiqua in Bruges, Belgium. The performance was well-received, and the ensemble quickly gained a reputation for their innovative interpretations of early music. The ensemble's unique sound is created by combining the voices of Sigrid Hausen and Sarah M. Newman with the harp, percussion, and other instruments. VocaMe has performed at many prestigious festivals and concert halls around the world. Some of their most notable performances include the Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht, the Tage Alter Musik in Regensburg, and the Festival de Musique Ancienne in Saintes. The ensemble has also performed at the Berliner Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus Berlin, and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. In addition to their live performances, VocaMe has released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their debut album, "Kassia: Byzantine Hymns of the First Female Composer," was released in 2008 and received widespread praise for its innovative approach to early music. The album features the music of Kassia, a Byzantine abbess and composer who lived in the 9th century. VocaMe's other recordings include "Fiori Musicali: Baroque Music for Harp and Voice," "Hildegard von Bingen: O Jerusalem," and "Chiaroscuro: Renaissance Music for Harp and Voice." The ensemble's recordings have won several awards, including the German Record Critics' Award and the Echo Klassik Award. The members of VocaMe are all highly accomplished musicians with extensive experience in early music. Sigrid Hausen is a mezzo-soprano who has performed with many of the world's leading early music ensembles, including Hesperion XXI and La Capella Reial de Catalunya. Sarah M.
