Born on May 12, 1985, in New York City, Ian showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Ian's musical journey began with his enrollment in the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he studied under the tutelage of Yoheved Kaplinsky. He continued his studies at the Juilliard School, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. He also received coaching from renowned pianists such as Emanuel Ax, Peter Serkin, and Richard Goode. Ian's talent and hard work paid off when he was awarded the Elizabeth Parisot Prize for outstanding pianists at the Yale School of Music.
