Percy Jones was born on December 2, 1947, in Wales, United Kingdom. He grew up in a musical family, with his father playing the piano and his mother singing in a choir. Jones started playing the guitar at the age of 13 and later switched to the bass guitar. In the early 1970s, Jones moved to London and joined the jazz-rock band, "If". He played on their albums "If 4" and "Not Just Another Bunch of Pretty Faces". Jones' unique style of playing the bass guitar, which involved using a pick and playing fast, intricate lines, caught the attention of many musicians. In 1974, Jones joined the progressive rock band, "Brand X", which was formed by Genesis drummer Phil Collins. Jones played on the band's first three albums, "Unorthodox Behaviour", "Moroccan Roll", and "Livestock". His bass playing on these albums was highly praised by critics and fans alike. Jones left "Brand X" in 1977 to pursue a solo career. He released his first solo album, "Bass-ically Speaking", in 1979. The album featured Jones playing bass guitar and synthesizer and was well-received by critics. In the 1980s, Jones played with a variety of musicians, including Brian Eno, David Sylvian, and Roy Harper. He also formed a new band, "Tunnels", with percussionist Frank Katz and guitarist Marc Wagnon. The band released their first album, "Tunnels", in 1987. Jones continued to release solo albums throughout the 1990s and 2000s, including "Cape Catastrophe" (1992), "Propeller Music" (1999), and "Subway Songs" (2003). He also played with a variety of musicians, including jazz guitarist John McLaughlin and drummer Ginger Baker. In 2016, Jones released a new album, "Abandoned Dancehall Dreams", with former Porcupine Tree member Steven Wilson. The album was well-received by critics and fans and showcased Jones' unique style of playing the bass guitar. Throughout his career, Jones has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of music. In 2015, he was inducted into the Bass Player Hall of Fame. He has also been named one of the "Top 10 Bassists of All Time" by Rolling Stone magazine.
