The Scottish Chamber Orchestra Wind Soloists is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over 40 years. The ensemble was founded in 1974 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to create a unique sound that would set them apart from other ensembles. The founding members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Wind Soloists were flutist Richard Blake, oboist Robin Williams, clarinetist John Cushing, bassoonist Laurence Perkins, and horn player Hugh Potts. These musicians were all members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and they decided to form a wind quintet to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music written for this combination of instruments. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and their ability to bring a fresh perspective to classical music. They performed extensively throughout Scotland and the UK, and their popularity grew as they began to tour internationally. Over the years, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Wind Soloists has undergone some changes in membership, but the ensemble has always maintained a high standard of excellence. Today, the ensemble consists of flutist Alison Mitchell, oboist Robin Williams, clarinetist Maximiliano MartÃn, bassoonist Peter Whelan, and horn player Alec Frank-Gemmill. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra Wind Soloists has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Lincoln Center in New York. They have also collaborated with some of the world's most renowned musicians, including pianist Alfred Brendel, cellist Steven Isserlis, and violinist Joshua Bell. One of the highlights of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Wind Soloists' career was their performance at the Edinburgh International Festival in 1994. The ensemble performed a program of works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms to critical acclaim, and their performance was broadcast on BBC Radio 3. The ensemble has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 1996, they were awarded the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Chamber Music, and in 2005, they were named Ensemble of the Year at the Scottish Classical Music Awards. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra Wind Soloists has recorded extensively throughout their career, and their recordings have received widespread critical acclaim. Their recording of Mozart's Wind Serenades was named one of the top classical recordings of 2011 by The New York Times, and their recording of Beethoven's Septet was praised by Gramophone magazine for its "sparkling, vivacious playing." In addition to their performances and recordings, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Wind Soloists is also committed to music education and outreach. They regularly give masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and they have worked with schools and community groups to bring classical music to a wider audience. In conclusion, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Wind Soloists is a world-class ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Their exceptional musicianship, innovative programming, and commitment to music education have made them one of the most respected and beloved ensembles in the world.More....
