Gregory Newton was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Gregory showed a natural talent for music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Gregory began his musical education at the age of five, studying piano with his mother. He quickly progressed and started taking lessons with other renowned pianists in the city. At the age of ten, he started playing the cello, following in his father's footsteps. He continued to study both instruments throughout his childhood and teenage years. In 2003, Gregory was accepted into the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied piano with renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky and cello with cellist Joel Krosnick. During his time at Juilliard, Gregory won several awards and competitions, including the Juilliard Concerto Competition and the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians. After graduating from Juilliard in 2007, Gregory continued his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with pianist Gary Graffman and cellist Peter Wiley. During his time at Curtis, Gregory performed in several concerts and recitals, including a solo performance with the Philadelphia Orchestra. In 2010, Gregory made his debut as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was a huge success, and Gregory received critical acclaim for his virtuosic playing and musicality. This performance launched Gregory's career as a soloist, and he began performing with orchestras and in recitals around the world. Over the years, Gregory has performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Sydney Opera House. In addition to his solo career, Gregory is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has performed with some of the world's most renowned chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. He is also a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, where he performs regularly with other world-class musicians. Throughout his career, Gregory has received numerous awards and accolades for his playing. In 2015, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise. He has also been awarded the Gilmore Artist Award, the Arthur Rubinstein Prize, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. In addition to his performing career, Gregory is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught masterclasses and given lectures at some of the world's most prestigious music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Gregory is known for his virtuosic playing, musicality, and technical precision. He is a master of both the piano and the cello, and his performances are always captivating and inspiring. He continues to perform and teach around the world, and his contributions to the world of classical music are immeasurable.
