Enya, born Eithne Patricia Ní Bhraonáin, is a renowned Irish singer, songwriter, and composer. She was born on May 17, 1961, in Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland. Enya was the sixth of nine children born to Leo and Máire Ní Bhraonáin. Her family was musically inclined, and her parents were both musicians. Her mother was a singer, and her father played the guitar, accordion, and piano. Enya's musical journey began at a young age. She started playing the piano when she was four years old and later learned to play the guitar and the violin. She joined her family's band, Clannad, in 1980, where she played the keyboard and sang backing vocals. Enya's unique voice and musical style soon caught the attention of music producer Nicky Ryan, who was working with Clannad at the time. In 1982, Nicky Ryan and his wife, Roma Shane Ryan, formed a music production company called Aigle Music. Enya left Clannad to join Aigle Music, where she began her solo career. Her debut album, "Enya," was released in 1987 and was a commercial success. The album featured the hit single "Orinoco Flow," which topped the charts in several countries. Enya's music is known for its ethereal and atmospheric sound, which is created by layering her vocals and using synthesizers and other electronic instruments. Her music is often described as new age or Celtic, and she has been credited with popularizing the genre. Enya has released several albums throughout her career, including "Watermark" (1988), "Shepherd Moons" (1991), "The Memory of Trees" (1995), "A Day Without Rain" (2000), "Amarantine" (2005), and "Dark Sky Island" (2015). Her music has been featured in several films and television shows, including "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "Game of Thrones." Enya has won several awards for her music, including four Grammy Awards and an Academy Award nomination for her song "May It Be" from "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring." She has also been awarded honorary doctorates from the National University of Ireland and the University of Ulster. Nicky Ryan and Roma Shane Ryan have been instrumental in Enya's success.
