Sarah Curro is a renowned Australian violinist, chamber musician, and artistic director. She was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1979, and began playing the violin at the age of four. Her parents were both musicians, and her father was a violinist in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Curro grew up in a musical household, and her parents encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Curro studied at the Victorian College of the Arts and the Australian National Academy of Music, where she was awarded the prestigious ANAM Prize for Excellence in Violin. She also studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany, with Professor Krzysztof Wegrzyn. Curro has performed extensively throughout Australia and internationally, including in Europe, Asia, and the United States. She has appeared as a soloist with many of Australia's leading orchestras, including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed as a chamber musician with some of the world's leading musicians, including pianist Piers Lane, cellist Li-Wei Qin, and violist Brett Dean. Curro is also an accomplished artistic director, and has founded several successful music festivals and concert series. She is the founder and artistic director of the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival, which has become one of Australia's leading chamber music festivals. She is also the founder and artistic director of the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, which has performed to critical acclaim throughout Australia. Curro has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2003, she was awarded the prestigious Australian Music Prize for her debut album, "Sarah Curro: Violin." She has also been awarded the Melbourne Prize for Music, the APRA Award for Excellence in Classical Music, and the Helpmann Award for Best Chamber Music Performance. Curro is known for her passionate and dynamic performances, and her commitment to promoting classical music in Australia. She is a tireless advocate for the arts, and has worked to promote music education and access to the arts for all Australians.
