The UAB Chamber Trio is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). The trio consists of three main members: Dr. Denise Gainey on clarinet, Dr. James Zingara on trumpet, and Dr. Christopher Steele on piano. Dr. Denise Gainey is a professor of clarinet at UAB and has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles throughout the United States and Europe. She has also been a featured soloist with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and the Birmingham Chamber Music Society. Dr. James Zingara is a professor of trumpet at UAB and has performed with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, the Birmingham Brass Quintet, and the Birmingham Art Music Alliance. He has also been a featured soloist with the UAB Wind Symphony and the UAB Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Christopher Steele is a professor of piano at UAB and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. He has also been a featured soloist with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and the Birmingham Chamber Music Society. The UAB Chamber Trio has performed at numerous venues throughout the United States, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City. They have also performed at international music festivals in Italy and Spain. One of the highlights of the UAB Chamber Trio's career was their performance at the 2010 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Sydney, Australia. They were the only chamber ensemble invited to perform at the conference and received rave reviews for their performance. The UAB Chamber Trio has also received numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2012, they were awarded the Silver Medal in the Global Music Awards for their album "Crossroads." They were also named the 2013 Chamber Music Ensemble of the Year by the Alabama Music Teachers Association.
