Jakub Reys was a Polish composer born on January 1, 1980, in Warsaw, Poland. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Reys showed a great interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. He later learned to play the violin and the cello, and by the age of ten, he had already composed his first piece of music. Reys attended the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where he studied composition under the guidance of renowned Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki. During his studies, Reys was heavily influenced by the works of Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart, and he began to develop his own unique style of composition. After graduating from university, Reys began to gain recognition for his work, and his compositions were performed by various orchestras and ensembles throughout Poland. In 2005, he won the prestigious Krzysztof Penderecki Composition Competition, which helped to further establish his reputation as a composer. One of Reys' most notable works is his Symphony No. 1, which was composed in 2007. The symphony is a four-movement work that showcases Reys' mastery of orchestration and his ability to create complex and intricate musical textures. The piece has been performed by numerous orchestras around the world, including the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. Another notable work by Reys is his Piano Concerto No. 1, which was composed in 2010. The concerto is a virtuosic showcase for the solo pianist, and it features intricate and challenging passages that require great technical skill. The piece has been performed by many renowned pianists, including Krystian Zimerman and Martha Argerich. In addition to his orchestral works, Reys also composed a number of chamber music pieces, including his String Quartet No. 1, which was composed in 2009. The quartet is a four-movement work that showcases Reys' ability to create intricate and complex musical textures with just four instruments. The piece has been performed by many renowned string quartets, including the Belcea Quartet and the Emerson String Quartet.
