Silesia Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Katowice, Poland. The orchestra was founded in 1974 by Jerzy Salwarowski, a renowned Polish conductor, and has since become one of the most prominent orchestras in Poland and Europe. The ensemble consists of over 80 musicians, including some of the most talented instrumentalists in Poland. The orchestra's repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from Baroque to contemporary, and it has collaborated with many renowned soloists and conductors. Silesia Orchestra has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The orchestra has also toured extensively in Asia, North America, and South America, and has received critical acclaim for its performances. One of the highlights of Silesia Orchestra's history was its performance at the 1980 International Festival of Contemporary Music in Warsaw, where it premiered Witold Lutosławski's Symphony No. 3. Another notable performance by Silesia Orchestra was its collaboration with the legendary pianist Martha Argerich in 1999. The current artistic director and principal conductor of the orchestra is Wojciech Rajski, who has been with the ensemble since 2012. Under Rajski's leadership, Silesia Orchestra has continued to push the boundaries of classical music and explore new repertoire. The orchestra has collaborated with contemporary composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki and Paweł Szymański, and has premiered several new works. In addition to its performances and recordings, Silesia Orchestra is also committed to music education and outreach.
