She was the daughter of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. Her father recognized her talent for music at a young age and started teaching her piano when she was just four years old. Lang's talent for music was evident from an early age, and she quickly became a prodigy. She made her public debut at the age of six, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Her performance was met with critical acclaim, and she was hailed as a child prodigy. Lang continued to study music throughout her childhood and teenage years, and she quickly became one of the most promising young musicians in Austria. She studied under some of the most renowned music teachers in the country, including Alfred Brendel and Friedrich Gulda. In 1945, Lang made her international debut at the age of 17, performing at the Salzburg Festival. Her performance was a huge success, and she was invited to perform at other major music festivals around the world. She quickly became known for her virtuosity and her ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music she played. Lang was also a prolific recording artist, and she recorded many of the great works of classical music throughout her career.
