Topologies is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for exploring the boundaries of classical music. The founding members of Topologies were violinist Sarah Whitney, cellist Laura Metcalf, and pianist Liza Stepanova. They were joined by clarinetist Gleb Kanasevich and percussionist Ian Rosenbaum, who brought their own unique perspectives and talents to the ensemble. One of the highlights of Topologies' early career was their performance at the 2016 Bang on a Can Marathon in New York City. The Bang on a Can Marathon is an annual music festival that showcases innovative and experimental music from around the world. Topologies' performance was well-received by both the audience and the critics, and it helped to establish the ensemble as one of the most exciting and innovative classical music groups in the United States. Since then, Topologies has gone on to perform at some of the most prestigious music festivals and venues in the world. They have performed at the Lincoln Center in New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, among others. They have also collaborated with some of the most renowned composers and musicians in the world, including John Adams, Steve Reich, and Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to their performances, Topologies has also received numerous awards and accolades for their work. In 2017, they were awarded the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program Grant, which allowed them to commission new works from some of the most exciting young composers in the world. They have also been featured in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and NPR. Despite their success, Topologies remains committed to their mission of exploring the boundaries of classical music.
