Ensemble Ader is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1996 by pianist and harpsichordist Bob van Asperen. The ensemble is named after the Dutch composer and organist Johann Heinrich Ader (1720-1802), who was a contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach. The main members of Ensemble Ader are Bob van Asperen (harpsichord and piano), Mieneke van der Velden (violin), Rainer Zipperling (cello), and Michael Oman (flute). All of the members are highly respected musicians in their own right, and have performed with many other ensembles and orchestras around the world. Ensemble Ader is known for its performances of Baroque and Classical music, particularly the works of Bach, Handel, Mozart, and Haydn. The ensemble has a particular focus on historically informed performance, using period instruments and playing styles to recreate the sound of the music as it would have been heard in the composer's time. One of the highlights of Ensemble Ader's career was their performance at the 2006 Bachfest in Leipzig, Germany. The Bachfest is an annual festival celebrating the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, and is one of the most prestigious events in the classical music calendar. Ensemble Ader's performance was highly acclaimed, and they were invited back to the festival in 2010. In 2001, they were awarded the prestigious Echo Klassik award for their recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations.
