Enrique Raxach was a Spanish composer who was born on January 1, 1932, in Barcelona, Spain. He was the son of a musician and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. From a young age, Raxach showed a keen interest in music and began studying the piano and composition. Raxach's early musical education was at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, where he studied piano, harmony, and composition. He later continued his studies at the Paris Conservatory, where he studied with Olivier Messiaen and Darius Milhaud. Raxach's early compositions were influenced by the avant-garde music of the time, and he was particularly interested in the use of electronic music. He was one of the first Spanish composers to experiment with electronic music, and his early works in this genre were well received. In the 1960s, Raxach began to move away from electronic music and started to focus on more traditional forms of classical music. He was particularly interested in the use of Spanish folk music in his compositions, and many of his works incorporate elements of Spanish folk music. One of Raxach's most famous works is his "Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra," which was composed in 1971. The concerto is a virtuosic work that showcases the guitar's capabilities and is considered one of the most significant works for the guitar in the 20th century. Raxach's other notable works include his "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra," which was composed in 1963, and his "Symphony No. 1," which was composed in 1965. Both works showcase Raxach's unique style, which combines traditional classical music with elements of Spanish folk music. Throughout his career, Raxach was recognized for his contributions to classical music. He was awarded the National Music Prize of Spain in 1989 and was made a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in 1991. Raxach continued to compose music until his death on December 23, 2003. His legacy lives on through his compositions, which continue to be performed and admired by classical music enthusiasts around the world.
