John Del Carlo was a renowned American bass-baritone opera singer, known for his powerful voice and commanding stage presence. Born on April 23, 1953, in San Francisco, California, Del Carlo grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. He attended San Francisco State University, where he studied music and voice, and later went on to study at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Del Carlo made his professional opera debut in 1980, singing the role of Colline in Puccini's "La Bohème" with the San Francisco Opera. He quickly established himself as a rising star in the opera world, and went on to perform with some of the most prestigious opera companies in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Paris Opera. Throughout his career, Del Carlo was known for his powerful voice and his ability to bring depth and emotion to his performances. He was particularly renowned for his performances in the works of Mozart, Verdi, and Puccini, and was widely regarded as one of the finest bass-baritones of his generation. One of Del Carlo's most memorable performances came in 1991, when he sang the role of Leporello in Mozart's "Don Giovanni" at the Metropolitan Opera.
